Free Groceries, Free Hair Cuts, Free Flea Market

On Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Trinity Life Center will host an event open to the community called The Big Giveaway, in which they will provide free groceries, free haircuts and a free flea market.

“Our desire is to provide for the physical and practical needs of North Highlands,” says associate pastor and coordinator of the event, Rev. Caleb Cole.

The Big Giveaway will take place on the church’s lawn just off Madison Avenue, west of their main facility. “Because we’re practically in their backyards, we hope people can walk right over for the event and not have to worry about driving somewhere for this kind of help,” says Cole.

Trinity Life Center provides groceries for the community the last Thursday of every month. In addition, they receive multiple phone calls and visits each day from those in the community needing financial assistance for utility bills, rent and other financial responsibilities. In recent months, they have seen an increase of those in need.

“The more people have come to us for help, the more we knew we needed to do something,” says Rev. Tom Galovich, associate pastor and Director of Benevolence.

In preparation for The Big Giveaway, Trinity has been buying and storing groceries in addition to its regular monthly food bank order. Two weeks prior to the event, church members will donate items such as clothes and furniture for the flea market. Over 100 volunteers from Trinity are expected to help make the event a success. They will provide free lunch and activities to entertain children.
