Did you know you can cut your grocery and household budget
in half by using coupons? September is National Coupon Month which means it is
time to get those scissors out and cut your grocery spending! Grab coupons from
the Sunday paper, and even get extra Sunday papers for more coupons. You can also print out
coupons online at Coupons.com and the product websites.
Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, razors are all
household items you can get with coupons and hardly ever have to pay money for
them. It works with food, too. You will never have to pay over $1 for a box of
cereal and if you have kids that always want snacks, you should be able to
stock up on those for pretty close to free on those as well. Then you will be able to take the
money you save on those items and buy your meat, produce, and milk.
Here are some great ways to start saving right away. Buy one copy of the Sunday
paper for each member in your house. Then you will have multiple copies of each
coupon. Wait for the items to be on sale, then use all your coupons to stock up
and then you will not have to go and buy them later at full price. Only cut out
the coupons you will be using. If you do cut them out, make sure they are
organized. Coupon blogs will save you lots of time because they have already done
the work for you. There are many that tell you the right time and places
to use your coupons, or what coupons you can print to start saving right away.
TheKrazyCouponLady.com has a great Beginners section that gives great details
on getting started. PantryOverflow.com tells you all about local grocery and
drugstores and how to get free and cheap items where you already shop.
SaveAtRaleys.com is all about shopping at Raley’s where you can print your shopping list, and
all the coupons that go with what is on sale that week.
If you are more of a hands-on learner or are already couponing, there is a group
of local couponers that meet and teach others how to do all of this. On the
first and third Thursday (September 1st and 15th) from
6-7pm, they teach the coupon basics: how to get started, organized, start
shopping, and start saving! Even if you are already a seasoned couponer, come join us to share shopping trips, trade
coupons, and just have fun hanging out with other couponers in the community!! Join us at Family Community Church 6331 Watt Ave North Highlands. The entrance is through the side door (in the lot on I Street).
