On October 1,
2011 the GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club is having a Foster Kids
Seminar at the North Highlands-Antelope Library at 1:30 pm. We would like to
invite everyone to this free event. We are -if it’s possible - that you
bring an item to put in the back packs & gym bags we are making for kids
that are entering the foster care system.
We will be packing the bags at the
end of the Seminar. These bags are different from the back to school bags we
have all helped with this back to school season. Some of the items we need are journals,
brushes, combs, tooth brushes, tooth paste, floss, travel sized shampoo, soaps,
feminine personal care items, snacks and of course anything for school. You
will notice these are basic needs and personal care items that the kids may
have to leave at home when they enter the system. We will have donation forms for anyone who
brings any items, since we are a 501c3 non-profit organization.
We have some great speakers this year including Cynthia from Sacramento County CPS. She will be telling us all about how kids get into the system, as well as how they leave the system. Did you know that CPS has a section that just deals with adoptions? Christina will be speaking from the Stanford Home on how to become a foster parent. If you ever thought you would like to be a foster parent, this will be one place where you can learn about it with no strings. Joy and a student from CSUS will be speaking about the Guardian Scholars program. Joy helps young adults that were foster kids get college degrees. We will be making 15 bags for the college age students to help them with items to help them get their degrees. They need Scientific Calculators, memory sticks or flash drives, laptop sleeves, 3 ring binders, paper, mechanical pencils and of course pens.
We have a drop off site at London Nails in the Bel Air Shopping Center at 7897 Walerga Road #125 (916-722-1114). If this site does not work for you contact the Club at antelopeCFWC@comcast.net. We will have someone pick up the items.
Our next Club meeting is Sept 10th at the Super 8 Motel off of Madison Ave, just off Hwy 80, north side. We meet in the breakfast room at 11:30 am. We wish to thank the owners of the Super 8 for allowing us to use their room. You may find out more about our club on face book at GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club or at www.gfwc.org or www.cfwc.org. We hope to see you at our next meeting.
