SMUD Board of Directors recognizes energy-conscious commercial customer

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is honoring Hines for making the commitment to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental protection by implementing energy efficiency measures and emerging technologies. The SMUD Community Energy Award recognizes commercial customers who share SMUD’s
values of efficiency and environmental sensitivity and who have turned these beliefs into actions. These customers have controlled their energy usage, improved their bottom line, and reduced the amount of energy that must be generated for our region.

This award recognizes the achievements of Hines for participation in SMUD’s commercial energy efficiency program. At its 2150 River Plaza Drive location in Natomas, Hines has completed an upgrade to controls for its energy management system on four buildings. Over the next five years, the building measures will save more than 2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, equaling $223,000 in reduced energy costs. As a result of reduced electricity use, greenhouse gas emissions are also significantly reduced. The numbers below are the equivalent of removing nearly 200 cars from the roadways:

2,338,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2)
8,751 pounds of sulfur dioxide (SO2)
6,512 pounds of nitrogen oxide (NOx)

Additionally, Hines worked with SMUD to create a “best practices” video for the SMUD Web site. “Hines is an excellent example of a business customer going above and beyond to help our community by being more energy efficient,” said SMUD Ward 5 Director Rob Kerth. “Hopefully, more customers will follow Hines’ lead by taking advantage of SMUD programs that can help them reduce energy use and save money.”
