Assemblymember Roger Dickinson distributed 450 backpacks filled with school supplies to youth in the Sacramento area.  Dickinson’s first annual “Give Back(pack) Drive,” a back-to-school drive to collect backpacks and supplies for kindergarten through 6th grade students in Twin Rivers Unified School District, ran from August 1st to August 17th.  Dickinson, with the help of the Sacramento River Cats’ mascot, Dinger, presented the backpacks filled with new supplies such as pencils, rulers, notebooks, folders, etc.

“I am thankful for all of the generous donations we received from Sacramento area businesses and members of the surrounding community,” said Assemblymember Dickinson.  “Every child deserves a fair chance to succeed in school. Thank you for helping our local youth receive the basic supplies they need,” he added.

Throughout the drive, Dickinson’s office has received generous donations from the Loveall Foundation for Children, Comcast, BagKing.com, Rite Aid #6070 on Del Paso Blvd., Recycling Industries Inc., Sacramento County Young Democrats, and Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, as well as many donations from Capitol staff and the surrounding community.

The filled backpacks are going to students at Del Paso Heights Elementary School, Castori Elementary School and Woodlake Elementary School.  Twin Rivers Student Services Department will also receive backpacks to distribute to students throughout the school district.

“Thank you to Assemblymember Dickinson for holding this back-to-school drive and to those who donated so generously.  Our students are thrilled and grateful to have new backpacks and supplies to begin our new school year,” said Leo Alvarez, Del Paso Heights Elementary School Principal.
