Since we were experiencing a mild August, I decided to spend
an afternoon out in Roseville at Timber Creek Golf Course. Timber Creek is
located in the Sun City development and has been a full 18 holes since 1998.
Originally there were two separate nine hole courses and designers were brought
in to create a third nine. That nine became the second half of the Timber Creek
golf course while the remaining nine is now called Sierra Pines. Both courses
work throughout the housing development and give you fresh landscape as well as
views of the houses.
I invite all levels of golfer to play Timber Creek. Right now the price is right as they are running specials on various websites. They recently aerated the golf course so by the time you read this the greens should be exemplary. Timber Creek boasts one of the best practice facilities in the area with an ample short game area that allows you to practice all the way out to 115 yds. One thing to remember is to put a bucket in the catcher when getting your balls for the driving range.
The course is both fun and challenging, as it plays 6500 yards from the tips all the way down to 5176 yards for the ladies tees. The course starts off with a mild par 4 dogleg to the left and then goes onto a par 5 that if you are a long hitter, can be reached in two. If you aren’t confident, the best shot would be to lay up and hit a comfortable distance into the green. The next few holes can be great reward holes if you are playing well. When you get to the seventh and eighth holes, be prepared to have to hit precise shots off the tee and into the greens as they both can ruin a scorecard if not played well.
The back nine starts off with one of the toughest holes and then gives way to nice play from 11 through 16. Seventeen and eighteen are possibly one of the toughest closing pair of holes in the area. Both are guarded by extensive trees, water or bunkers. These two holes will test a golfers resolve to finish strong and can either cap a great round or make you realize you have some work to do to become the golfer you want to be.
