NOT FOUND: we are voice.jpgA well dressed woman walks up to a homeless man and gives him a bag of fast food. After thanking her, he takes a bite and gives the rest of the food to his dog. This scene is played out over and over everyday.

Michael Stoops, Executive Director of the National Coalition of the Homeless, estimates that five to ten percent of homeless people have pets. Most people who experience homelessness (80%) are homeless for a short period of time. These pets are nonjudgmental, offer comfort, and provide an emotional bond of loyalty. In some cases, they provide the homeless protection and keep them warm. We must all be a voice for pets of the homeless. They do not ask for the situation they find themselves in. They need food, medical care, spay/neutering and kindness. Our staff invites you at attend our Fall Open House and Charity Event, benefiting the homeless pets of Sacramento. Our doctors and staff would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal clients and welcome new clients to enjoy the energy that your pets experience when they visit our practice. On October 16, 2010 from 11 am to 3 pm, VCA Highlands Hospital will be holding tours of our hospital to give you the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes during your pets’ visits. A silent auction will be held, benefiting VCA Charities to help create a better life for pets and their families.

Many local businesses have donated great items for our auction, including dinners, karate lessons, hotel stays, gift baskets, a child's bike, rounds of golf , Music Circus tickets, and many more! The SSPCA will be in attendance with a few adoptable pets looking for a new family. We will also have a K-9 Officer and his partner “Jesse.” Visitors can enter raffles to win a variety of prizes, including a free, one year supply of Interceptor, Frontline, pet food from Hill’s and Royal Canine and many more prizes.

VCA Highlands Animal Hospital wants to extend a sincere “Thank You” to our local community and the families that trust us to care for their pets. We know that times have been financially difficult for many families and we want to take this opportunity to give back to our community. Come in to say “Hi”, meet you neighbors and friends, enjoy some delicious barbeque, and go home with some great prizes. Our staff is looking forward to spending some time with you away from the busy pace of the workday!
