Members of my family and I recently went to Mather Field on Saturday, September 11, 2010. This was quite a treat for me because of all the growing up I did around pilots and the planes that marked different points in my history. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska we visited Offutt Air Force Base for the open houses. It was my father's last station of duty in 1953. Since it was SAC headquarters at that time they had a full assortment of planes. We would go up into the cockpits of planes like the B-17, B-19, B-24 and B-29.
