North Highlands residents of all ages are invited to a transfer celebration at Freedom Park in North Highlands on Tuesday, May 18 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Community members can enjoy a free ice cream social while celebrating the Air Force’s transfer of a 25-acre land parcel, a major milestone in the cleanup and revitalization of the former McClellan Air Force Base.

Located near the northeastern corner of the former McClellan Air Force base at the corner of Dudley Boulevard and Freedom Park Drive, the parcel is home to the Aerospace Museum of California and Freedom Park. The property will be transferred to the Aerospace Museum and the North Highlands Recreation and Park District in two deeds.

“We are very excited to transfer ownership to the community where the property will continue to serve as a resource for the entire region to enjoy,” said Steve Mayer, McClellan environmental coordinator for the Air Force Real Property Agency.

The Air Force Real Property Agency, the Aerospace Museum of California and the North Highlands Recreation and Park District are sponsoring the free community event.

Following the celebration, community members are encouraged to attend the quarterly meeting of the McClellan Restoration Advisory Board at 6:30 p.m. at the North Highlands Recreation Center, 6040 Watt Ave.
