March is Frozen Food Month, so why not celebrate by stocking up your freezer? Grocery stores will be offering great sales on frozen items. It is a good time to buy frozen meals, frozen vegetables, meats and other frozen entrees. It may seem like an expense you can’t really afford now, but it will end up saving you money in time, as you will not have to go to the store and pay full price for the frozen food you would normally pay full price for.
A good way to stock up is to watch the ads, and then buy multiple items of the ones that are on sale. If you have coupons for the items, you can save even more. Buying multiple copies of the Sunday paper to get extra coupons, looking online for some good printable coupons and watching for grocery store issued coupon books are a few ways to get frozen food coupons.
If you want to stock up on meat, watch the prices and buy extra when it goes down to a price you think is really good. Most grocery stores have a meat markdown section where the meat is priced 50% off because of the expiration date. If you grab some when it is marked down, you can throw it in the freezer and have it to use when you need it. If it isn’t on your budget to buy a lot of food at once, then start buying a little bit extra of the great sale items whenever you can, and eventually you can end up with some extra without having to spend more money.
If you do not have a large freezer, consider going in on large purchases with a friend and ask them to store it for you. Once you have a stocked freezer you can begin to plan your dinner menu based on what you already have, instead of what you need to go buy. Stocking your freezer when items are at the lowest prices will save you time, trips to the store, and minimize the times you have to pay full price!
