Anchor Store ‘Ross Dress for Less’ Set to Open

Sierra View General Contractor provided construction services and Shaun Morrow from Terranomics acted as broker for the landlord.

The original shopping center, built in 1983, was anchored by a Lucky Supermarket. With the redevelopment, Ross Dress for Less, will now be the primary anchor store. In addition to Ross, the shopping center also includes a Rite Aid, McDonalds, Popeye’s, Taco Bell, Jiffy Lube and a handful of other small boutiques. “We have been looking forward to revitalizing this shopping center to once again become the premiere retail intersection in the North Highlands,” said Engstrom. In March 2009, the redevelopment project was allocated $600,000 for exterior rebates and a $1.2M agency market rate loan to rehabilitate the building itself by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) as a part of the McClellan Park/Watt Avenue Redevelopment Area Investment Strategy.

Watt Elkhorn Partners has acquired ten vacant former Ralph’s grocery stores in the greater Sacramento area, all of which are presently undergoing construction and redevelopment.

The Elkhorn Shopping Center project will not only help the esthetic atmosphere of the region, but will also create new jobs despite a tough economic market. The Elkhorn Shopping Center is expected to create about 40 jobs within the Ross Dress for Less store, which will add to the jobs already created by open stores in the shopping center.

“Sierra View General Contractor is excited to be part of a project that helps keep people employed and the region moving towards additional economic growth,” said Sierra View’s VP of Construction, Robert Downey, PE, LEED AP.

Sacramento County’s District 1 Supervisor Roger Dickinson is also looking forward to the Grand Opening of the Elkhorn Shopping Center. “The Elkhorn Shopping Center will be a welcomed addition to the North Highlands community. I support redevelopment projects such as the one [Mark] Engstrom has helped to create that offer residents a great place to shop locally,” noted Dickinson.
