NOT FOUND: fcc helps local businessman.jpgIf you live in the area, you have probably have seen the short, modest man with the purposed gaze, walking down Watt Avenue with his red lawnmower. And maybe a gas can.

John Killins has lived in North Highlands since 1969, and for many years he has taken up the job of mowing his neighbor’s lawns. He made a career out of it. In speaking to one his customers, “John is a blessing”. In fact, Killins is known to charge very little to cut a lawn. Year in and year out, his yard work continued, but the worst news came when the red lawnmower that he relied on for business recently broke down.

Fact was, his equipment had seen better days. He had run the grass eater to the ground and he didn’t have the means to pay for a new one.

Frequently, John would walk by a local house of worship on Watt Avenue. It came to the attention of Family Community Church that humble John was no longer pounding the pavement on the way to cut someone’s sod. At the same time, a congregation member at the church had just donated a lawnmower. Family Community Church found out about the need and hooked John up – this time the lawnmower is green.

So when you see the “man with the mower,” as he is affectionately called by some in the community, know that he is on a mission. He may just be cutting your lawn, soon, or that of your neighbors. And know that, since receiving that vital tool and local trademark, he is walking a little taller now.
