Visions In Education Charter School is offering a new pilot program for the Fall of 2010. Known as the VisionsEDGE (Educating Differently in a Global Environment). Interested 9th grade students within this pilot will receive a Dell netbook to use as their platform for learning. With the VisionsEDGE program, all of the curriculum will be accessible on-line. Students will find a rich experience of project-based learning in which they explore, research, create and apply their knowledge of essential California State standards.
βIn this environment, students will be able to demonstrate their learning in creative ways, compared to the worksheets and chapter quizzes that they interact with in traditional schools.β claims Pilot teacher, Jennifer Russell.
At the heart of the program is a rich one-to-one relationship with a credentialed teacher who mentors students individually, in small groups and as a class, exploring a variety of activities and experiences. βA solid relationship between the teacher and student is the foundation of the program.β says Christy McKinnis, Co-Project Manager. Students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum steeped in 21st Century skills such as innovation, collaboration and critical analysis. Students will be using web-based tools and environments to create, share and interact with fellow students, teachers and content.
The program is open to the first one hundred students who apply and are enrolled into Visions In Education. To get more information and test drive some of the school work that students will do, please visit http://edge.viedu.org or call 916-971-7037. Visions In Education is a free public charter school, based in Carmichael, which serves Sacramento and adjoining counties.
