Girl Scouts Heart of Central California and the California National Guard partnered, and held an event in June that recognized the Girl Scouts who have worked hard to ensure troops overseas receive Girl Scout Cookies.
Local Girl Scout Troops from Lodi and Roseville sold Girl Scout Cookies during the months of February and March to raise money for their troops but also encouraged the community to purchase Girl Scout Cookies as a donation to the troops overseas. Several Girl Scout troops successfully collected 198 cases of Girl Scout Cookies (which equals 3,600 boxes or 12 pallets) and Lt. Col. Laura Yeager with the National Guard accepted the cookie donation on behalf of the soldiers and airmen of the California National Guard .
The Girl Scouts that were recognized, and their families and friends, were given a hands-on tour of the California Army National Guard’s heavy lift helicopter, the CH-47 “Chinook”helicopter.
After a few words and a poem from the local troops, Girl Scouts assisted the Guardsmen in loading the last pallet of donated Girl Scout Cookies into the “Chinook.” The girls watched the helicopter take off as the cookies take the first leg of their journey to Iraq and Afghanistan.
