ROSEVILLE – Denio’s Roseville Farmers Market & Swap Meet announced today that employee Rafael Garcia has been named one of the two recipients of the 2010 Denio’s Scholarship.

The education award is given annually to young employees who are excelling in the classroom, show initiative and accept new challenges while working at Denio’s, and have also volunteered for community service. Both Garcia and I’esha Brown each received a $1,000 scholarship from Denio’s.

Garcia, who lives with his parents and two younger brothers in North Highlands, has worked in food services at Denio’s since December 2007.

“Rafael has been a great role model for all our young employees at Denio’s,” said Ken Denio, President of Denio’s Farmers Market & Swap Meet. “He is an extremely hard worker who is always eager to take on new challenges and job responsibilities. Rafael demonstrates that same determination and willingness to learn in his school work and his other endeavors as well.”

Garcia has been in the Home Builders Institute (HBI) carpentry program and the School for Integrated Academics and Technology (SIATech) for the past two years at Sacramento Job Corps. He graduates from both programs in June and this summer will begin attending the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) program in San Jose. The advanced vocational training school is designed for students seeking careers in either airport or railroad operations.

During the past year, Garcia has done volunteer work for several Sacramento organizations while representing the Sacramento Job Corps.

“I’ve learned many things while working at Denio’s like how to multi-task, how to deal with customer-related problems, and demonstrating respect to customers as well as other employees,” Garcia said. “Denio’s is like a big family. Everyone enjoys what they are doing and are really trying to do a good job and make this a great experience for our many customers.”

Denio’s is open every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The Friday outdoor market is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
