McClellan, CA – McClellan Business Park, LLC raised a record
$30,162 this year to purchase groceries and gifts to help 280 local families in
need.
The business park donated $8,000 to needy families in the neighborhood. Then it
collected another $22,162 in donations from tenants, vendors and employees for
a total of $30,162. The money was used to make boxes of food for 280 local
families in need.
Since 2003, McClellan Park has helped provide a brighter holiday for more than
1200 local families who are living at or below poverty level. Last year,
McClellan Park raised $29,000 and provided 250 Holiday Baskets and 250 grocery
bags to local families.
This year, 280 families received a holiday basket filled with all the
ingredients for a holiday meal, a $50.00 grocery gift card, a board game along
with additional staple items such as bread, peanut butter, soup, tuna, mac-n-cheese,
oatmeal, hot chocolate and granola bars. The families all have children
at one of six area schools – Gateway Community Charters, Bell Avenue, F.C.
Joyce, Dry Creek, Orchard and Madison Elementary School.
“For most of these children, the only meal they receive is at school, so it was
important to try to fill that gap again this year,” said Charity Committee Co-Chair,
Magee Duke. “We hope the addition of the staples will help feed the children
during the holiday break.”
With the additional money raised, McClellan Park was also able to donate $1000
to the “Adopt-a-Family” program and provide gifts and a holiday meal to two
local families. Adopt-a-Family is sponsored by North Sac News in conjunction
with Sacramento Helping Hands.
McClellan Park made a donation, in lieu of holiday gifts, on behalf of its
tenants and vendors to The Holiday Food Basket Program. “We’ve made the Holiday
Baskets part of our year-round operation. Many of these families would not have
a holiday meal without the support of more than 100 of our employees, tenants
and vendors,” McClellan Park president Larry Kelley said.
