The Secretary of State has asked that we pass along information to you that warns of some deceptive solicitations that businesses may be receiving that imply that companies have to go through a private, third-party vendor - and pay a fee - in order to file official documents with the Secretary of State.
Some of these solicitations have involved "State of Information" documents that appear at first glance to be official. These documents require a fee to file them with the Secretary of State and threatens fines for non-compliance.
Under the law, no business is required to go through a third party to file a document with this office and there is no need for any company to pay more that the applicable statutory filing fee that, in most cases, is no more than $25.
