I must say meals are about memories.

Yes, we enjoy a fun place, a clean place, tasty nibbles and great customer service. But boil all the particulars down and it's about how the  conversation, texture and smells danced around in our mind. What color are your favorite food memories? If they are at all like mine they are likely orange, bright and warm like butternut squash, sweet potato pie or the paint splattered on a wall or two inside a spot like "Quickly", one of the only Asian Tea shops in the North Area.
If you're more often around Arden than Roseville head out a little further to 16th near V street for a "Milk Tea". I apologize to anyone who doesn't enjoy the many facets of Asian cuisine but it really floats my boat. Asian food is colorful and happy, like the anime cartoons I watched when I was a kid. Every plate, drink and candy is wrapped like a colorful package tied with a bow.
At Quickly the packaging is simple but special with a plastic vacuum seal that allows you to take it to go without ever spilling a drop. The jumbo straws are candy striped and the drink menu seems to go on forever! There are nearly 200 drink selections including everything from Rose flavor to Reeses Peanut Butter cup! If you're intimidated, then the standbys of strawberry and mango, orange, pineapple or chocolate are among them. For those more versed in Boba, the other name for the milk teas named after the tapioca "pearls" added to the drinks, they have red bean, avocado, taro and thai tea. The owner's wife even makes her own homemade grass jelly!! (don't ask just go try a sample if you like to try new things!) It can sound like another language but imagine the excitement of walking into a new city, an adventure in a cup!
Milk tea, Boba, bubble tea or pearl tea are all pretty much the same thing. It originated in Taiwan and became popular across Asia later spreading across Europe and the Pacific.  If you end up ordering smoothies at the mall when you go to the food court, or if frappuchinos are your drink of choice when you go to a coffee shop you should give a cafe like Quickly a shot! All of the drinks at Quickly are made with fresh soy milk, though they do carry coconut and almond milk. Partially to be a bit healthier, but also because many in the community are lactose intolerant (dairy allergies are an issue)
There are simple appetizers as well including sweet potato french fries, waffle with nutella, deep fried popcorn chicken and much more. It's a great place to take kids if you're ever in the area - because you can walk out with such a different drink than they may have ever had. Give it a try - and let me know what you think by emailing submit@northsacnews.com.
