The GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club is inviting you to stop at our booth at the Antelope Community Sale on Saturday, August 13th at the Antelope High School Parking lot. We will be selling items from A to Z in hopes of making enough money to help buy backpacks & gym bags for the foster kids in our area. Everything that we sell will help fund our October “Foster Kids Seminar” at the North Highlands – Antelope Library on October 1st. The bags for the foster kids we will be making at the seminar will be filled with personal care items such as brushes/combs, lotions, tooth brushes and tooth paste. Each bag will have a few snacks for the children plus a journal so that they may write down their experiences. We also hope to raise enough money to put a few school supplies and possibly a photo album to keep any photos that the children may cherish of their families. If you would like to help, contact us at antelopeCFWC@comcast.net. Come to the seminar and help us fill the bags for the foster kids.
On Saturday, October 1st at 1:30 pm we will be learning more about foster kids. Topics include: How they enter the system, who they are, how we can become foster parents, what happens to these children after they leave foster care and what we can do to help. We have a wonderful lady from the Stanford Home for Children coming and someone from CPS to tell us the government's roll in the lives of foster kids. We are still working on other speakers. We hope to get a past Foster Child who has graduated from the system. There is a wonderful program at Sacramento State that helps foster kids with college. We want this to be a positive experience for all. We want everyone to leave with a feeling that they have helped a foster child.
Our next Club meeting will be September 10th at 11:30 am at the Super 8 Motel just off Highway 80 at Madison Ave and Hillsdale Ave. We would love to see you there.
