According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, everyone needs to be physically active on a regular basis. "One of the best exercises is brisk walking," so says Alan Beltramo, a local Wellness Coach and Fitness Trainer. Yes, simply walking 30 minutes a day five or more times a week can produce significant health benefits. But where can you find a safe, spacious, beautiful and peaceful place to walk in the surrounding area? Where can you find others - friends and neighbors - who will join you and give you the support you need to stay active? Gibson Ranch. Yes, Gibson Ranch. Alan Beltramo, with the support of Doug Ose, started a walking group called “Ranch Walkers”. The Ranch Walker group meets weekdays at 7:00am in the parking lot near the General Store. Then the group walks one of several different routes to get in 30 or more minutes of physical activity. All levels of fitness are welcome; however, if you have any health or medical concerns, you are encouraged to see your doctor before joining the group. Alan and Doug are asking local residents to come to Gibson Ranch for a fun and refreshing experience. The Health Benefits of Physical Activity—Major Research Findings

- For most health outcomes, additional benefits occur as the amount of physical activity increases through higher intensity, greater frequency, and/or longer duration.
- Most health benefits occur with at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity physical activity, such as brisk walking. Additional benefits occur with more physical activity.
- Both aerobic (endurance) and muscle-strengthening (resistance) physical activity are beneficial.
- Health benefits occur for children and adolescents, young and middle-aged adults, older adults, and those in every studied racial and ethnic group.
- The health benefits of physical activity occur for people with disabilities.
