Enjoy a family overnight safari right here in Sacramento – at our own Sacramento Zoo! The last two safaris this season will be August 6th and August 13th. Camp out with your family – or at least two people – with lions, tigers and bears sleeping just a few feet away – in cages of course. The flamingoes will give you a wake up call in the morning, just in time for a breakfast of fresh fruit and your choice of plain or chocolate chip pancakes. Some of the zoo’s Animal Ambassadors in attendance include a Bobcat, Blue and Gold Macaw, the White-faced whistling duck, a Kinkajou and the Desert Tortoise, just to name a few.
You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on at the zoo in the nighttime. The Safari Leaders will be doing special animal feedings, and educational talks about the animals. You even get to help make one of the animal’s special treats! There is a spaghetti dinner to start the evening off. Gathering around the campfire and singing songs, telling stories and eating snacks will be fun after going on the Nighttime Safari Tour and the Nocturnal Nibbles animal feeding. Then you can imagine you are in a far off exotic place as you fall asleep under the stars with the sounds of the wild. The next day you will go on a Morning Walkabout and the Morning Munchies animal feeding after breakfast.
The excitement starts at 5:30 p.m. when you get to set up camp. The overnight safari ends at 9 a.m. the next morning. You can enjoy the Zoo for the rest of the day if you want to. For a complete itinerary, ticket prices, and registration, visit www.saczoo.org, and click on the "How to Visit" link, and then select the "Overnights" option. Or you can call (916) 808-5888 for more information. There is also a helpful list of suggested items to bring. These August dates are the last two overnight safaris for the summer – so you won’t want to miss the fun and educational family outing. The family will enjoy seeing how real wild animals behave at night.
