NOT FOUND: cuts to education.jpgAs you may be aware, the State budget for education has been cut dramatically over the past two years. As a result, the Twin Rivers Unified School District, along with most California districts, is being forced to make some tough choices, including lay-offs, school closures, and decreasing transportation services and costs.

As a result of these cuts to the education budget, the busing eligibility distance around Twin Rivers schools will now be:
Grades K-6: More than 1 mile
Grades 7-8: More than 2.5 miles
Grades 9-12: More than 3 miles

Unfortunately, the changes in transportation will affect students and families. Starting this year, there will be limited busing to most North Highlands and Foothill Farms campuses as most students will now live within the eligibility distance to the school. In accordance with State law, Special Needs Students will continue to receive transportation. If you are the parent of a Special Needs Student, your bus driver will be calling you directly with transportation information.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some families and hope that as the State budget improves we will be able to bring back the same level of service,” said Twin Rivers USD Transportation Director Chuck Ernst.

In the meantime, community members in and around the pathways to our local schools can help. As you are gardening, walking the dog, or on your way to work, please keep an eye out for students they make their way to school. Working together, our community can make it through this challenging budget and ensure the safety of students.

Bus Routes, stops, and times for the 10/11 school year will be posted on the Twin Rivers district website at www.twinriversusd.org and posted at the school campus and web site. For additional questions or concerns, feel free to call the Twin Rivers transportation department at (916) 566-1613.
