County Regional Parks is encouraging all Trail Users to share the Parkway bike trail

Sacramento, Calif. –Sacramento, Calif. – As activity on the American River Parkway starts to ramp up for the spring and summer, new Rules and Courtesy signs are being installed that encourage visitors to follow the rules and share the bike trail.

“Posting the rules of the Parkway makes them easier to enforce,” said Steve Flannery, Chief Park Ranger. “It is our hope that by posting these rules, we will encourage all trail users, whether they are biking, jogging, or walking, to use common sense and make an effort to share the trail and be courteous to others.”

According to Flannery, 15 new courtesy signs were purchased for $400 from the Ranger budget. Twelve signs are currently being installed, with the rest of the signs being held as extras.

“Our old courtesy signs were several years old and were showing their age,” said Flannery. “Our old signs also had a lot more wording, and because we realized that most trail users reasonably wouldn’t take the time to read the entire sign, we cut the words by half.”

The new signs are being installed at popular American River Parkway areas that access the bike trail in conjunction with the bike trail map signs. Approximately two million people visit the American River Parkway and the bike trail each year.

The Park Ranger Dispatch Office is open for drop-in visits from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. every day and calls for Ranger service and maintenance needs are answered until 11:30 p.m. The dispatch number is 916-875-PARK (7275).
