Grandma's Southern Tea Cakes
This is an old recipe that is so simple and really good when you just want something a little sweet, or with your morning coffee.
4 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 pound (2 sticks of real butter) softened
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl sift flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Dough should be soft. Roll dough out onto a floured surface until approximately 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shaped (I use a heart shaped cookie cutter or the top of a drinking glass, makes them perfectly round) and bake on a slightly greased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes.
I also sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top and add a side of strawberry preserves. Your whole family will like this. Serve with fruit or plain, or even drizzle chocolate syrup over them, then lightly powder them with sugar. Any way you like!!!!
