NOT FOUND: familynight1.jpgFun, food and family! All of it was enjoyed at the beautiful Cherry Island Golf Course as North Sac News' readers came out to experience what our paper is now famous for; a great experience at a great price. It was a wonderful time for people from Antelope, North Highlands, Foothill Farms, Elverta and Rio Linda. Even residents from Citrus Heights caught word of the community event.
The Cherry Island Bar and Grill was packed with a line out the door for those who got in on the tri-tip meal deal, complete with warm dinner rolls, salad and baked beans. Kids ate for $4 and adults for $7, when it would typically cost nearly $20 a plate! Even with the crowd, there was plenty of indoor, air-conditioned seating and people were moved through the line briskly as the servers plated the food buffet style.
NOT FOUND: familynight2.jpgKCRA 3’s Adrienne Bankert was our host and managed two microphones; kudos for that! “The Clown Lady” provided face painting and the kids quickly discovered the Tae Kwon Do provided by Robinsons. Surprisingly, their favorite feature of the night was the green and the hills and curves along the course, which Cherry Island staff gladly managed. Kids were seen tumbling, and dare I say, “frolicking” on the manicured lawn while adults enjoyed the putting contests and great prizes. The Pro Shop offered a special discount for those attending the event that night and NSN staff were on hand for special drawings, including free meals and coupons at Mountain Mike's and Jamba Juice. Nationwide Insurance gave some prizes for the drawing as well.
NOT FOUND: familynight3.jpgLocal golfers showed up and were all smiles taking in the action with the young children, some of whom had never even seen a golf course. The adults proudly carried their prize golf clubs and balls after winning the evening's contests. Only four of the many contestants won prizes for making what proved to be a difficult putt, including our very own editor. Only two of the four had any golfing experience whatsoever! So, Mr. Walton walked away with a new golf club and, while an 8 year old was in the same ranking. No one managed to win the grand prize; a full set of Hippo golf clubs. But the real winning combination was the blend of businesses and families that made it enjoyable for all age groups and affordable for everyone.
Thank you to all the staff and to all our readers for making another Family Night possible!
