NOT FOUND: erics_review.jpgI’m kickin it old school this month by dining with my lovely, articulate and occasionally beguiling wife Carrie, at a Sacramento Institution known as The Buggy Whip Restaurant. The Buggy Whip has been owned and operated by the same family for more than 50 years now. The Buggy Whip is located at ------ Fulton Ave a few doors down from the former address of the Coral Reef Restaurant, the Finest eating establishment this fare city has ever known. And by the by The Buggy Whip is so cool they actually have a painting of my beloved Reef in the dining area.

Where as Crush 29 in Folsom would be an example of a trendy, Modern, hip, restaurant for the young and upwardly mobile, The Buggy Whip would be what I would refer to as the anti Crush. The B Dub is the ultimate steak and potatoes restaurant and with pride they do not pretend to be anything else.

The Buggy Whip is an establishment made up of many regulars. As Carrie and I made our way through the lounge towards the dining area, I could have sworn I heard somebody
yell out NORM!

NOT FOUND: erics_review2.jpgThe Menu you is no frills meat and fish and they do it very well. They have but a few appetizers but they have the ones you need. With your entrée the Whip serves you both soup and salad and yes it is included, not alacarte like most restaurants are turning to these days.

The Menu states that the Buggy Whip serves the best prime rib in town thus I had to give it a try. The regular cut is $22.99 where as the larger is 24. The smaller will be plenty for most people, even those with a healthy appetite. Not having tasted all the Prime rib in Sac town I can’t say it was the best however it was really, really, really good. Cooked to a perfect medium (and yes that is how I ordered it) and served with Au jus and both crème and straight horseradish. The creamed went on my baked potato and the straight went on my meat. I can tell you this if you have had Prime Rib at such places as Black Angus or The Outback you may never go back to either place if you try it at the buggy Whip. I have been searching for a place that serves great Prime Rib ever since the Fireside Restaurant closed several years ago at 56th and H and now I can genuinely tell you my search is over.

My Carrie (or as I call her around the house, The Incredible Mrs. Limpet) had the Salmon. It was a nice sized portion, grilled to perfection and very, very tasty. Most all the entrée’s are between 17 and $24 dollars. The portions are large and the quality is as well.

NOT FOUND: erics_review3.jpgWe were there on a Friday night and the soup oddly was clam chowder. Simply awesome chowder, I should have had them bring me out the pot and send me home with any left over for a midnight snack and breakfast.

The house Italian dressing is the way to go on the salad; I was considering ordering a glass of it instead of tea.

Now if you would like to keep the cost down a little here is how you roll. Currently Tuesday and Sunday nights are Prime rib night for $14.99. They offer a daily early bird menu between 5 and 6:00. And there is the Sirloin Steak dinner for 2 for $31.99 which I highly recommend that can be had anytime any night. It is a great introduction to the Buggy Whip.

All in all my dinner at the Buggy whip was fantastic and I also have to say our waitress was great as well. I finished off my evening with a slice Cheesecake factory Cheesecake and a suddenly tightened waistband.

In many ways it was the perfect night. An evening with juicy Prime Rib and the world’s most beautiful woman? Just pinch me.
