6852 Dry Creek Rd., Rio Linda at the Dry Creek Ranch House

car_show.jpgThe Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society’s 4th Annual Classic Car Show, on the grounds of the beautiful Dry Creek Ranch House in Rio Linda, will include a Swap Meet for the first time. The Labor Day Car Show was first held in 2006. It was such a terrific success, with over 100 cars showing that first year, that the Society made a tradition out of the Labor Day Classic Car Show. It has continued to expand each year and this year promises to be the best yet with the addition of the Swap Meet.

Gates open at “daybreak” for the Swap Meet. Admission to the grounds is free for all spectators and is only $10 to rent a 10x20 space in the swap meet area. Those elusive parts might just be there, so bring what you have and see what you can find.

Car Show registration opens at 7:00am. Everyone is welcome to bring a vehicle, including trucks and motorcycles. Registration is $20 for any vehicle entered in the car show. Those entering on show day should plan to have their vehicles registered and ready to show by 9:00am. The Rio Linda High School ROTC will perform the opening flag ceremony at 9:00am to kick off the show. Trophies, plaques and awards for a wide variety of categories will be given out. The People’s Choice Trophy will be decided by the spectator votes. The most unusual entry so far is a 1958 Chrysler Hemi Engine powered pencil sharpener, just in time for the start of school. This may be the only time you'll ever see a 200 horse powered pencil sharpener, so make sure to take a look.

The Historical Society has designated the proceeds from the Classic Car Show for the restoration of their antique fire truck, Engine # 2. The 1927 American La France Fire Engine is the second, original fire truck in the Rio Linda Fire Dept. It was obtained by the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society with grant money from Sacramento County in February 2003, and has been undergoing restoration in the Historical Society’s shop behind the Dry Creek Ranch House Museum. The Society is lucky to have members with the equipment and mechanical expertise to undertake this major project. Work on Engine #2 is all volunteer and there have been literally thousands of hours spent on the restoration of it. The Society expects to have Engine #2 fully restored and operational in the near future. Engine #7, a 1949 Dodge Power Wagon, will be on display along with Sac. Metro Fire Dept.’s, Old Betsy, the first Rio Linda Fire Truck.

There will be plenty of food, games and music as well as raffle prizes. For more information please call Bob Bastian 916-991-2484.
