The Girl Scout cadets of Troop 328 are working on a new project, and the task is way beyond cookie sales! The cookies are awesome, but this troop is set on earning their Silver award which is the second highest award a Girl Scout can earn. In order to achieve this prestigious award, these six 14-year-old-girls had to choose a project that involves their community – donating several hours of active community service. The cadets of Troop 328 have chosen a project that will benefit the new Antelope High school, as well as the Antelope community as a whole. According to Cadet Ashley, a freshman at Antelope High, the plan is to improve the student courtyard by installing tables and benches for the students to use. They will also be working on the landscape that surrounds the courtyard.
The cadets are able to enlist the help of their families, friends and community; but must be actively involved in every step of the project themselves. “We are working with Antelope High school principal John Becker on all phases of the project,” stated Cadet Ashley. “We also have the approval and full support of the Roseville Joint Union High School District.”
Troop 328 is asking the community to get involved with this project. They are looking for a local artist to make and then donate a sculpture that will be displayed in the courtyard. Local businesses and individuals alike are invited to get on board with this project, as well. The troop has submitted the following list of supplies that they need to accomplish this very large undertaking:
• Large ceramic pots
• Potting soil
• Red and black outdoor paint (school colors)
• Queen Palms
• Red geraniums
• Outdoor benches and tables
• Umbrellas for the tables
• Ceramic plates of any type/style
Individuals and businesses that donate either items or the funds to purchase these items for the project will have their name displayed on a plaque that will be on display at Antelope High School. Not only will the Girl Scout cadets of Troop 328 be able to accomplish their goal of achieving the coveted Silver award, but the donations will benefit Antelope and the surrounding communities as well. If you have any questions, you can contact Ashley at 916-333-2854 or Jenny at 916-727-2759.
The troop has to have a summary report of the work they’ve done, and have planned to do submitted in December; and the project must be completed by May of 2009.
Show your support and call to make a donation to a very worthy cause!
