Are you looking to get away, but don’t have time for a weekend getaway or vacation right now? Well, there’s a solution just down the road! Take a short drive out to the Fountains at Roseville – located across the street from the Galleria at the corner of Galleria Blvd. and E. Roseville Parkway. It is not only Roseville’s newest shopping center, but also the first “lifestyle center” of this kind in the Sacramento area. As you drive in to the Fountains, it’s like taking a step back in time when life moved at a much slower pace and “downtown” was the only place to be.
While the weather is still warm, you can dress the kids in their swimwear and let them play in the interactive children’s fountains. Make sure you bring a towel because it’s like a toddler water park and they will be soaked!!! Saturdays, beginning September 13th, they will be offering free arts and crafts for children. Men (and other non-shoppers): Have no fear! If you’re not into shopping, but still enjoy a day out with your family, this is the place for you. Dad’s looking for something to do to entertain themselves and their “future shoppers” while the moms peruse the stores can take the pint-size peeps to the complimentary big play structure for some fun, energy-spending time. There is also a train that kids can ride for $2.00 per child/ride. Don’t have any pint-sizers? That’s OK, too. Take some time to visit Orvis (www.orvis.com). Along the lines of Bass Pro Shop, Orvis is loaded with cool sporting goods for hunting, fishing, hiking and lots of other concepts – unlike shopping – that I don’t fully understand!
The Fountains at Roseville is centered around the fountain! Most malls have a “fountain”, but nothing like they’ve got here. Here the water dances! I watched two performances myself. The water was hoppin’ and seemed to be saying “Let me at ‘em” as Johnny Cash sang about The Ring of Fire, then seamlessly kept in perfect step with Nancy Sinatra and her walking boots! The fountain gets to perform every hour, so if you miss a show just hang around. There’s another on the way. When not showing off its gift of dance, the fountain is still a great source of entertainment as it often changes its flow patterns – at times leaping high into the air, and at others becoming a refreshing mist. Nights at the Fountains at Roseville are even more spectacular as the water show is accompanied by changing lights, featuring colored misty fog!
The Fountains at Roseville had its Grand Opening on June 30, 2008; but there are still exciting things to come. There are several restaurants currently under construction. California Pizza Kitchen (www.cpk.com) will be the first full restaurant when it opens on September 22, 2008. The Counter Burger (www.thecounterburger) is scheduled to open in October. Whole Foods grocery store is currently scheduled to open sometime prior to Thanksgiving in November. Just in time for the holiday season, the Fountains at Roseville should be up and running at full capacity. Stay tuned for news and happenings between now and then.
There is a lot of stuff out there that you can’t find anywhere else in our area. Just to name a few, La Petit Chateau (www.lepetitchateau.biz) offers furnishings and décor that celebrate European luxury living at its finest. West Elm (www.westelm.com) also offers home furnishings and décor, but on a more modern level as they offer the “cash and carry” option of their sister store, Pottery Barn. As Cherie, an employee of the store pointed out, “If you need a sofa the day before Thanksgiving, we’ve got it!” Need some new cookware or other kitchen utensils? Drop into Sur La Table (www.surlatable.com). In the few minutes I was in that store, I found several doo-dads I’m not sure how my already-over-stocked kitchen has survived without.
There are many other fantastic stores just waiting to welcome you at the Fountains at Roseville. For a complete listing, please visit their web site at www.thefountainsatroseville.com.
