NOT FOUND: Hydrant#5Media.jpgCan you find the fire hydrant in this picture? It's obscured by several feet of thick, dense brush. If a fire occurred in this neighborhood, fire fighters would waste precious time finding the hydrant and cutting brush to get to it.

Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD) is responsible to provide water service for fire hydrants and other facilities used for fire protection in its service area. The Fire Code places the responsibility for fire hydrant vegetation clearance on the property owner. Vegetation, landscaping, posts, fences and other improvements are to be constructed and maintained at all times so as not to impede the clear visibility of the hydrant from all approachable directions. A minimum clearance of three feet is to be maintained around the hydrant. The fire department and SSWD require 24/7 access to all fire hydrants.

Prepare for an emergency in your neighborhood by locating the fire hydrant(s) on your street, and if one is in your yard, clear any obstruction so that fire crews can access the hydrant in the event of an emergency. The home they save may be yours.
