The GFWC Antelope North County Women’s Club is inviting you to help us fight Domestic Violence on October 18, 2008. We are having a special meeting at the Antelope North Highlands Library at 1:30pm. We would like to tell you more about our General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Special Project: Domestic Violence Awareness and the GFWC Organization. We are asking everyone that attends to bring items for “Personal Care Kits” that we will be making at the meeting. These kits are filled with items that all women need. Women leaving a violent situation are not always able to bring even the barest of essentials. These kits will enable women to take care of the most personal of needs.
The Curves located on Elverta Road & Walerga Road, next to the Rite Aid, will help us collect the items we need to make these special “Personal Care Kits”. You may drop off any items whenever Curves is open. The items we need are small travel shampoos & conditioners, travel tooth pastes, tooth brushes, travel size bars of soap and, feminine hygiene items.
Domestic violence is a fact of life; one out of three women will be a victim of domestic violence in her lifetime.  Children bought up in a home with an abuser - male or female - are many more times likely to be a victim of violence or an abuser.  We have several local agencies set up to help these victims. A victim is a woman or a man who has experienced anything from verbal attacks, denial of rights, to isolation and sexual assault.
If you need help call the 24 hour Crisis line (916) 728-7210. This is a line to the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Citrus Heights. We also have a new, six bed shelter called “My Sister’s House”; this shelter specializes in helping Asian and Pacific Islander victims, but this shelter will help anyone who contacts them through their hot line (916) 428-3271. WEAVE, a shelter helping all women in the greater Sacramento Area also has a hot line in place: (916) 920-2952.  If you are, or feel you may be a victim of violence, please call any of the three hot line numbers listed. All three of these groups will help you get the help you need.
