NOT FOUND: jubilee1.jpgOn October 17, thousands of people from North Highlands and the surrounding communities came out to celebrate the 8th Annual North Highlands Jubilee! The event was a huge success!
Hosted by Supervisor Roger Dickinson, the Jubilee took place at the North Highlands Community Center in the heart of North Highlands Town Center, Watt Avenue and Freedom Park Drive. The goal of the Jubilee is to bring together the entire North Highlands community to celebrate all that the neighborhood has to offer including culture, food, live music and community services. For all who attended it was Mission Accomplished!
“It was a great day, and it is wonderful to have the North Highlands community as well as the surrounding communities come out enjoy themselves and be a part of celebrating all the good things that North Highlands has to offer” said Supervisor Roger Dickinson.

Parking was busy but accessible across the busy Watt Avenue as it is every year. As packed as it was, everyone appeared to be in high spirits, grateful for the mild weather, slightly overcast and a little humid. But the clouds parted and it became a beautiful, warm, sunny day with plenty to do, and fun to be had by the entire family.
There were two stages, one with live music performances, and the other with local entertainment from the community. For kids, there were different bounce houses, hair painting, and many booths had games to play where anyone could win a prize. Dinger from the River Cats was there to greet the kids, as was Mr. Jelly Belly and the Hometown Bee from Hometown Buffet! Once the kids got all the free candy at the booths, they could go get a dental screening and a free fluoride treatment. (First comes first right?) There were also FREE Health Screenings for Children through age 5 years to preregister them for kindergarten entry, including hearing and vision Screenings.
NOT FOUND: jubilee3.jpgThere were over 130 booths representing local businesses, churches, community programs, vendors, and more. For adults, it was a good time to learn about the many community programs available, find out about local services and community groups, and let’s not forget networking, meeting up with and talking to local business people in North Highlands. There was also more than just candy being given away. The Sacramento Suburban Water handed out water bottles, spray nozzles and shower heads, Quick Quack Car Wash handed out free car wash passes, and Hometown Buffet handed out free kid’s meal coupons.
As always, food was a major draw. One fan favorite was North Highlands catering company G-Dubbs Barbecue which offered tri-tip and barbecued chicken, potato salad and baked beans. The line for the grill was nearly as long as the line for the Teriyaki chicken and rice dishes from Roseville eatery Kozoku. Serving plates of generous helpings of chicken, cabbage made for a saucy and spicy lunch. There was the ever popular kettle corn and lemonade for those looking for more traditional festival food.
NOT FOUND: jubilee4.jpgNot all of the attendees were from North Highlands, there were attendees from Roseville, Antelope, Elverta, Rio Linda, Natomas, and other parts of the Sacramento area which was a big boost to the area which is now trying to invest millions into Watt Avenue and the greater North Highlands area and promote it to developers as an area ripe in potential.
After leaving the North Highlands Jubilee, you may be convinced that it is a community full of promise. If you missed this year, be sure to check out what’s going on next year for a taste and sound of what the people and businesses of North Highlands have to offer, and how a community working together can meet the needs of so many of its friends and neighbors.
