If you are looking for something free to do in the Sacramento area that isn’t the same old boring thing, try Lincoln Estates Park, located at 331 James Drive, just off of I-80 at the Douglas Blvd exit.

When you get there, and if you bring your kids, they may look at the playground and say “What is the big deal about this place?” Don’t be discouraged. Get out, walk past the playground about 100-yards and to the left you will see one of the best kept secrets around. The CEMENT SLIDES!

Cement slides may not sound that exciting, but once you slide down, you will only be thinking about your next turn. There are two side-by-side slides made of cement that are about 30-feet long. Bring your cardboard boxes, plastic tote lids, or anything you think will make you slide faster. Wax paper is really cool if you want to go fast.

We went with a group of 18 people ages 7-months to 51-years-old, and at the bottom of the slide, everyone was smiling and planning how they could go faster.

There is also a playground for the smaller kids to play on as the older kids and adults are occupied with the slides. There is a basketball court and plenty of grass to play soccer or baseball, as well as plenty of shade and picnic area.
After our picnic lunch recovering from the slides, we went walking past the slides and found a trail that went along a creek which was inhabited by many different kinds of birds, plants, and trees.

Some recommendations: wear tennis shoes and older clothes that you may not mind getting dirty in. Bring at least one cardboard box per person to open up to slide down on, or plastic tote lid, and a roll of wax paper. Get creative too! The more you go, the more ideas you may come up with. It truly is fun for the whole family and it will be a trip you will talk about for a long time.
