“We are looking forward to celebrating our 50th Anniversary with all of the community who enjoys our regional parks, trails and programs including the “jewel” of the region, the American River Parkway,” said Janet Baker, Regional Parks Director. “This was just the first in a year-long celebration of all things Parks.”
NOT FOUND: regionalparks50yr.jpgStarting in April, Regional Parks launched a “50+ Events in 50 Days” program that runs through October. Some of the more well known events include the Eppie’s Great Race in July and the Civil War reenactment at Gibson Ranch in May, but there will be many more events that are perfect for the whole family. The calendar of events will be maintained at our 50th Anniversary page at www.sacparks.net.
We are also announcing a photo contest that will run throughout the spring and summer until September 25, 2009. All community members are encouraged to take photos of our Regional Parks and submit up to three. Each photo submission is $5 and more information and contest rules can be found online on our 50th Anniversary page.
Carrying the 50th Anniversary theme of “Regional Parks, Sacramento County’s Golden Treasure,” we have placed geocache coins at sites throughout our parks. Geocaching has been rapidly gaining in popularity throughout the country and has already become quite popular at our parks. Geocaching enthusiasts can also purchase a commemorative Regional Parks 50th Anniversary coin, each with their own unique tracking number. To learn more about geocaching at Regional Parks, please visit our 50th Anniversary page.
We will also be displaying commemorative banners underwritten by CourseCo, Inc. at several of our park entry kiosks highlighting our 50 years, and producing a 50th Anniversary Regional Parks brochure, underwritten by the American River Parkway Foundation later in the year.
Copies of a proclamation from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and a resolution from the Board of Supervisors honoring our 50th Anniversary will soon be available online, as well as a special version of the Municipal Services Agency bi-monthly publication, The Conduit, in April.
These events are just a sampling of the many fun events and celebrations that Regional Parks will be involved in this year. Keep checking back to our special 50th Anniversary page throughout the year to see what we are doing next.
