This is a sweep of chronic DUI offenders. Beginning in 2007 and continuing into 2008, the Sacramento County Probation Department has been able to take steps to reduce the number of repeat offenders on Sacramento County roads thanks to an Office of Traffic Safety Grant. This grant funds an intensive supervision program for the worst offenders.
Anyone placed on probation for DUI will be supervised by the Probation Department. What is different with the intensive program is that those who are egregious re-offenders are visited at home, weekly, by a probation officer. The officer checks to ensure that the probationer is following the guidelines of their probation, such as not driving, not drinking, attending their court ordered rehabilitation counseling, and adhering to any other requirements to fulfill their probation.
The goal is to keep the offenders in compliance. If the offender will not comply, then they are then held accountable and rearrested for violation of probation among other offenses. A post-operation news release with statistics will be released once the sweep is over.
