In early April, I attended a Climate Communities conference in Washington, DC, which brought together policy-makers from over forty cities and counties to discuss issues that support climate change from the ground up. As co-chair of the Climate Communities coalition, my focus is to educate other policy-makers on the critical role of local governments in reducing greenhouse gas pollution and adapting to the impacts of climate change. Furthermore, Climate Communities will work to ensure that Congress and federal agencies enact policies and programs which provide the resources, tools and incentives local governments need to meet the climate change challenge. You will hear more about this coalition as well as Sacramento County’s efforts in the months ahead.
Leadership and stewardship: these two goals capture Sacramento County’s commitment to preserve the environment, manage climate change, and become more efficient.
Our goals impact you and here’s how:
If you are a business owner, you need the resources and tools to do your part to meet the challenges of climate change.
If you are a taxpayer, you need to know your county government is leading the way to more efficient and environmentally sound practices.
Each of us, as members of this community, need to learn how we can personally make a difference. It can be as simple as changing the light bulbs in your home, or as complex as designing an office building that will save money with energy efficient practices.
