Early last month, the Community Services Planning Council launched 2-1-1 Sacramento. By dialing 2-1-1, citizens of Sacramento County can reach trained specialists 24-hours a day to find the services they need. These services include local community resources such as children’s services, employment assistance, food programs, housing information, financial assistance, senior services, and more. The services are free, available in multiple languages, and accessible to the hearing impaired.
Nationally, the 2-1-1 service is currently available to 75 percent of the American public. With the launch of 2-1-1 Sacramento, 88 percent of California residents now have access to this service. 2-1-1 links numerous services of nonprofit and public agencies with an efficient, well-coordinated network. As a result, these agencies and organizations will receive fewer inappropriate phone calls. Thus, the 2-1-1 service saves public funds by directing callers to the most appropriate services.
2-1-1 Sacramento, a program of the Community Services Planning Council, is funded by the First 5 Sacramento Commission, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance, Area 4 Agency on Aging, Sacramento Superior Court, Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento, Sacramento Employment & Training Agency, and Sacramento Regional Office of Homeland Security.
2-1-1 Sacramento works with the County Office of Emergency Services and Sacramento Regional Office of Homeland Security as a partner in disaster preparedness and relief.
2-1-1 will be a critical resource for all Sacramento County residents.
