With so many school choices nowadays - public, charter, private or home school, how do I know which one to pick? Well, for public and charter schools you are limited to the district that you live in. Home school lacks social interaction and private school - well, is expensive. So what to do? I was recently on the hunt for a school for my new kindergartner and was disappointed in my options. I found the public and charter schools to lack funding and programs, basic educational tools for children that are not available. No push for morals, manners, or self confidence. And then there is private school’s… which are either way to far and have mandatory parent involvement which is hard for families that have both parents working full time. With the discouragement of looking for an above average school that provides exceptional education and is affordable and close to home, I felt that all hope was lost. That is, until I flipped through a parent magazine and saw an ad for St. John’s School “Providing a superior education that nurtures each child’s mind, body, and spirit.” I quickly looked them up on the web and it was love at first sight. With a bit of skepticisms still, I called for a tour to see if it was really all it was cracked up to be. Who would have thought a private school (currently being housed in the Barbara Chilton Middle School in West Park Roseville) would have a state of the art million dollar campus being leased until 2011. This school is gorgeous! St. John School currently owns property and is building right around the corner from the school, expecting to open their new school/church in 2010. This private school is a college preparatory school for Preschool through 12th grade. They are committed to a set of core values that define their curriculum and shape the culture of their school. They include small classes, weekly Spanish and computer classes, chapel everyday, after school programs and daycare, visual and performing arts and financial aid. Need I say more? This school has got it all: state of the art facility, qualified loving teachers, and a friendly, committed staff. They offer need-based financial aid for those who are seeking exceptional education on a smaller budget. My husband was talking with a fellow co-worker about private education, and they expressed how grateful they were for the decision they made to put their children in private education. They mentioned there was no dollar amount that you can put on your children leaving school with a sense of pride, honor, accomplishment, and self-worth. If they had to do it all over again they absolutely would, no matter what. You can have the same experience for your children.
