Where can you find meat-eating plants and some of the most devoted people on the planet? It’s all at the 3rd Annual Bloomin' Crazy-Plant Fest, a plant exhibit and fair at the Sacramento Zoo!

Really, gardening-types are among the most committed people I have ever met. I have hardly the patience for my lawn, let alone flowers and rarified greenhouse techniques! Those I’ve talked to are very patient and admit that gardening helps keep them that way, waiting for the sprout, the bud and the leaf. But green stuff won’t be the only thing flourishing at the Bloomfest. This almost-spring fling is sure to attract a lot of locals who, like me, are eager for harvest season, sunshine and all the fresh-picked wonder of April and May!

Green-thumbers travel in packs and so many of them will be out stopping to smell a rose, or a hydrangea. Groups like: the American Begonia Society, California Native Plant Society, California Rare Fruit Growers, Capital City African Violet Society, Carmichael Geranium Society, The Lavender Farm in Lincoln, Sacramento Bromeliad and Carnivorous Plant Society, Sacramento Tree Foundation, VermiDragon Farms - Worm Farm and much more will be in attendance! They will all be on hand to give gardening tips, nursery how-to and sample the goods for sale! It’s a great opportunity to find out how to join a club if you’ve never been in one.

All the gardening action happens on March 1, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will also be face-painting and animal exhibits for the kids and the kid in you. Who knows? I may even make a guest appearance. I’m sure to learn something and see just how my garden could grow.
