NOT FOUND: ericsrestrauntreveiw.jpg.jpgLast month I told you that this month I would be writing a romantic dinning column. Well, unless you can somehow pull romance out of a guy eating by himself at a BBQ joint, you will have to wait one more month. I have mentioned in the past that I am not a real big buffet fan; I am however a HUGE BBQ fan. Some people cry when they watch a sad movie, lose a pet, break up with a boy or girlfriend, hear Bob Dylan sing (perfectly understandable). But me, I have often been known to weep uncontrollably when presented with a rack of ribs.

So when I recently had a Saturday meal at The House of Chicken and Ribs at ---- Elverta Ave in Antelope, I was almost inconsolable. After I perused the menu I decided to get a little crazy and order Chicken and Ribs. I was asked whether I wanted white or dark meat for the chicken and I chose dark. I enjoy both and at times I have a craving for the more flavorful dark meat. This does not make me weird, however (and my wife can attest to this) there are plenty of other attributes I possess that put me in that category.

The Chicken and Ribs Combo plate with cornbread and two sides is only $11.50. This is a bargain and could easily be priced at $15. The chicken has always been fantastic at The HOCAR (acronym). I have been known to order a whole chicken, dump some sauce on it, lower my mouth and come up for a breath about every other minute until it is time to split the wish bone. Then if I win (and I always do since I am competing against myself) I simply wish for another chicken.

But such is not the case with The HOCAR (acronym). The ribs are moist, flavorful and firm with a kickin' sauce that can be had in regular or spicy. You get a very nice portion of these delectable ribs in the combo as well.

The sides were great but I was particularly impressed with the beans. Also, if you enjoy cornbread The HOCAR {acronym) is for you. The House of Chicken and Ribs (not an acronym) also offers Tri Tip, links and seafood plates all of which are outstanding. As a bonus I have never heard a Dylan song wafting through the speakers.

This week I will be having dinner at Morton’s new location and I am quite looking forward to it. I know, in this economy most of us can’t afford such a lavish meal. Well, this bill has already been paid, so for me it is affordable. Besides the economy has not affected me one bit. I didn’t have any money when the economy was booming and I still don’t.
