The GFWC Antelope-North county Women’s Club would like you to know that the GFWC has a program to help women with financial planning; it is called Dollars and Sense. This is one of several programs the GFWC has set up for its members to use to be smarter about their finances. The GFWC and the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) are working together to help women with their finances. Wiser is the nation’s only non-profit organization wholly devoted to providing women with the crucial skills and information needed to improve their economic circumstances and plan for a financially sound retirement. They also have an easy to use calculator to help you take control of your finances. Please check them out at www.wiserwomen.org
The GFWC also wants you to learn more about how to avoid Phishing. One way is when you are prompted for a password, test the site by giving an incorrect password, a scam will take it. We all know not to click on an attachment if we don’t know the person sending us that e-mail. It could be phishing or a virus. There is a great non-profit web-site that can help you learn more ways to stop identity theft; it is www.idtheftcenter.org . Help protect your privacy by checking out www.consumerprivacyguide.org. The Consumer Privacy Guide gives you useful tips for protecting your privacy and helps you take control of the way your information is used.
We all know to check our credit bills for charges we did not make and then act on that by calling or writing the credit card company and letting them know the charge is false. My mother kept getting charges each month for $19.99 from Sri Lanka. The issue was my mother is 89, never orders anything except her medicines with this credit card. The card company reversed the charges and stopped this company from charging her card again. You can check your credit score at www.annualcreditreport.com; this is a for-profit web site.
