The Sacramento Community Center Theater first opened its doors in 1974 and has since been home to many great performers including the Sacramento Opera, the Sacramento Philharmonic, the Sacramento Ballet and Broadway Sacramento. The venue also hosts stand-up comedians, concerts and speakers.
June 2009, Disney’s The Lion King: This national tour will be showing at the theater in June. The show is based upon the animated movie and has been recreated as a Broadway musical featuring scores by Elton John. With stunning set designs and show stopping numbers this musical is guaranteed to excite your senses. The story begins on the African Savannah and follows the life on young Lion named Simba as his life comes full circle from following in his father’s footsteps as a young cub to taking leadership of the pride as an adult. It makes a vivid statement about the circle of life in the wilderness. This show is great for spectators of all ages and is sure to dazzle.
October 2009, Legally Blonde the Musical: Now if you don’t remember there being any singing in this hit Blockbuster, you are not alone. But our favorite sorority sister, Elle Woods, has hit the stage. Legally Blond the Musical will take you from the sorority house of the Delta Nu’s to the halls of Harvard Law with Broadway's bubbliest new heroine and mini pooch, Bruiser by her side. This is a show that can only be called, "This much fun shouldn't be legal!"
