09_07 July NSN_Page_18_Image_0001.jpgThe General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Antelope-North County Women’s Club and the members of the Antelope Quilters Guild are continuing to support our men and women overseas. This Fourth of July we need to send a special thanks to all our service personnel overseas. It takes a special family to live without their father or mother for from 12 to 15 months at a time, and that is just what our service men and women are doing. We are supporting two service men in Afghanistan with cards, letters and packages. One soldier is from Carmichael and his regular full-time job is a 9-1-1 operator at Sacramento International Airport. We are lucky that the two service men we have been supporting in Iraq come home this month.

We continue to support the “Operation Top Knot” program through the Soldiers' Angels program. This is a program that conducts baby showers through the mail when one of the parents is in military service overseas. In June, we sent 16 quilts, along with baby clothes, coupons for baby items and a card to each family from the list sent to us by the program. We are happy that the Antelope Quilters Guild has joined us in working on this project. These wonderful quilting ladies are the makers of the baby quilts we send each month. This is the best of community service; two great groups working together to help our military service personnel. Check out “Operation Top Knot” and the adoption of soldiers at www.soldiersangels.org. There are links on this site to the many different projects handled by the Soldiers' Angels group. There are many more projects helping the service personnel and veterans.

Check out the GFWC Antelope-North county Women’s club at the OSH Parking Lot Sale in August. We are collecting used books to sell to help fund these two projects and more. We will have someone on hand that will be happy to tell you more about our wonderful women’s club and our projects. Also, check us out at www.gfwc.org, e-mail us at antelopeCFWC@comcast.net or call us 916-332-7133 and ask for Dori.
