The Antelope High School Titans will be kicking off their football season opener on September 11, 2008 against Whitney High School. This brand new, state-of-the-art stadium has been a long awaited project and supported by the Antelope Parents Booster Club. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend. Excitement is high for Athletic Director Mike Triolo and JV Coach, Matt Ray.
Principal John Becker said the biggest obstacle they faced was finding a practice facility before the stadium was ready. The football team has been practicing at Antelope Crossing Middle School until they can take to the field the first week of July. When asked what the main goal is for the football team this year, he said, “To have fun and create a foundation for the Titans. They will be the group that ignites the pride of the Titans for future years.”
The Titans have plenty to be proud of. The school and stadium projects were designed by Williams + Paddon out of Roseville. “There was actually a natural bowl in the landscape, suitable for a football stadium, that made it convenient to carve out that area.” Safety is the number one concern for the players so Brock USA and FieldTurf were the two main components used in making the field. Brock Performance Base is an innovative material using composite material generated by combining FDA food-grade, high crystalline polypropylene beads and an inert, non-leeching binding agent. It creates the most stable base that absorbs energy with a focus on player safety. FieldTurf is a synthetic material made of rounded silica sand and cryogenically frozen and smashed rubber particles. It is made to feel like real grass without giving you “rug burn” that other artificial turf may have felt like in the past. It also focuses on player safety, shock absorbency, and durability. This is the newest and best turf available in the market today. It is used nationwide in professional sports. In fact, 21 of the 32 NFL teams use FieldTurf. This stadium spared no expense and will be a proud part of Antelope High School.
