As of August 2006, St. Joseph's Medical Center’s newest Digital Mobile Mammography Unit, in partnership with Delta Radiology, has begun providing convenient screening mammography services to the women of central and northern California, including North Highlands and its surrounding communities! The Mobile Mammography Unit conveniently parks in the parking lot of the Town Center Plaza on Watt Avenue in North Highlands. The unit returns to this location on a quarterly basis.
If you are 40 years of age or older, with or without insurance, and would like to schedule a screening mammogram, please call St. Joseph’s Mobile Mammography Program to make an appointment for the North Highlands clinic. For any of their other clinic sites, please call 1-866-430-8222
St. Joseph’s Medical Center’s, Digital Mobile Mammography Unit is a full-service mammography clinic on wheels, housed in an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. It is certified and licensed by the FDA/American College of Radiology (ACR), and accredited by the California Department of Health Services. The program is dedicated to bring high quality breast-cancer screening equipment to women living in northern and central California counties. Their target group is women age 40 and greater, that may be uninsured, facing financial barriers and or living in hard-to-reach outlying areas that may not have services readily available to them. The service will be free of charge to those women who qualify under the Every Women Counts Cancer Detection Program. Those who do not qualify under the program are offered a reduced fee for service rate. The program also serves women with insurance, with an order from their doctor. The program goal is to reach out to all women and break down the barriers they may face.
“Statistics say breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Breast cancer is the disease many women fear most. Early detection is the best form of prevention! Women say they put off having a mammogram because they have no insurance and cannot afford to pay for one, or that they live too far from a health-care facility or simply can’t get away during the day. Our program’s goal is to break down those barriers! The unit will make it convenient for these women to obtain mammograms, by delivering mammography equipment and experienced technicians to a location that is best for them, be it in their community, workplace, or any site where they can benefit from having convenient access to high-quality mammography services,” states Marivel Costa, Resource Coordinator for St. Joseph's Medical Center, Mobile Mammography Program.
The mobile mammography unit offers a flexible schedule and visits community health fairs, shopping centers, migrant worker facilities, tribal centers, community clinics and other sites in many areas throughout their service region. The mobile unit will also travel to large-employee worksites.
For over 10 years, St. Joseph’s Medical Center has been dedicated to promoting breast health education and outreach programs to members of its community. They are very excited to provide this extremely important screening program to women in neighboring communities as well.
