Sacramento, Calif. – As of June 20, residents in North Highlands will have just three more weeks to apply for free assistance with home repairs. This generous offer is being made by the local non-profit organization, Rebuilding Together Sacramento. On Saturday, October 11, Rebuilding Together Sacramento will provide at least 15 homeowners with some much needed improvements to their homes during the organization's fall Rebuilding Day.

Rebuilding Together is the largest non-profit, volunteer home rehabilitation organization in America. Like its national counterpart, the local affiliate Rebuilding Together Sacramento aims to provide safe and comfortable homes for local area residents in need. Through its one day home repair events (held in April and October), volunteers and sponsors reach out to a local community and help repair old or dilapidated homes. These repairs are made free of charge and help homeowners to not only preserve their homes, but to live in greater comfort and safety. The event's primary sponsors are Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and Opus Construction.

More than 76,000 homes in the Sacramento area are considered substandard. Rebuilding Together Sacramento is decreasing those statistics through home repairs and modifications performed by a community of volunteers, corporations, civic and faith groups, and many others willing to donate cash, services, time and in-kind donations. These donations lead to a higher quality of life for local residents. For this October's Rebuilding Day, the type of repairs will be determined based on need, but can include painting, carpentry, yard clean up, plumbing and electrical work. All work will be done free of charge by volunteer workers.

"We are thrilled to rebuild in North Highlands this year. Rebuilding Dreams Days offer so much to the community, and these events are made possible by the generosity of our many volunteers and sponsors," said Carrie Grip, executive director of Rebuilding Together's Sacramento chapter. "Now all we need is for North Highlands homeowners to let us know they need assistance and apply to receive free home repairs. We really want to make some dreams come true this fall.”

Rebuilding Together asks that homeowners apply to receive home repairs for October's Rebuilding Day by Friday, July 11. Homeowners simply must live in the targeted neighborhood of North Highlands and meet the income guidelines listed in the application. A map of eligible homes, as well as an application, may be obtained by visiting www.rebuildingtogethersacramento.org. Homeowners may also call Rebuilding Together Sacramento at (916) 455-1880 ext. 0 for more information, to request an application, or to request assistance in filling out an application. Completed applications may be faxed, emailed or mailed back to Rebuilding Together Sacramento for consideration. Applications and assistance are also available in Spanish.

The homes most eligible to receive repairs will be selected by the Rebuilding Together team at the end of July. Applicants are selected based on the condition of their home, income verification and need. This is a special opportunity for local residents who are otherwise unable to obtain home repairs to receive these much needed repairs free of charge, and Rebuilding Together encourages North Highlands homeowners to submit an application as soon as possible to be considered.
