Walter A. Flanders a distinguished member of the Country Club Lions Club, left this life on Saturday, December 12, 2009.

Walter was born in Sacramento, California on July 1, 1928. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lion Rena, two children and six grandchildren. He graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1946. After High School Walter joined the U. S. Air Force, serving for three years. In 1949, he enrolled in Sacramento Junior College. Walter was employed by the U. S. Government as a Bomb-Navigation System Analyst and Program Manager. He retired from ITT as a Liaison Engineer, in charge of the Sacramento Field Office.

Lion Walter was very involved in the community, he worked with Little League and was active as a player in the Golden Seniors Slow Pitch Association, even playing on a co-ed team this year. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a registered Scout for 25 years. He was the recipient of the Silver Bear, The Silver Beaver and the St. George Award. Walt joined the Blue Yonder Lions Club, in 1978, as a charter member, serving as Director, 100% President and Treasurer. He also served on various other club committees. In 1990, he transferred to American River Lions Club, and served in that club as Director, Visitation Chairman and Club Treasurer. In the 4C5 District he has served as Zone Chairman, Pioneer Zone 1980-1981 and won the Top Zone Award, Deputy District Governor, District Treasurer 1988-1989 and 1990-1991, Convention Housing Chairperson and on various committees for the past 26 years. He holds 29 years of perfect attendance and was a Key Member. He has won two Lions Membership Achievement Awards, 26 Club President Appreciation Awards. He was Life Member of the NCLSA, and received two Fred O. Summer Awards. He held a Harry J. Aslan Fellow and three Melvin Jones Fellowships. In 2003 Walter transferred to Country Club Lions Club in the American River Lions Club.

Walter will be missed by all the Lions members of the MD4C-5 District as he was a regular visitor to all of the clubs every year.
