Generous Donation of Feed Will Help Support Resident Ducks During the Winter Months
In an effort to ensure that the resident fowl at Gibson Ranch stay healthy and well-fed during the winter months, Regional Parks volunteer and area resident Lloyd Coward has started a food drive for the birds. In addition to the other donations Lloyd has received so far, an entire ton of feed was donated from River Valley Feed, located at 6549 16th Street in Rio Linda.
“This type of response from the community to make sure the Gibson Ranch resident animals are cared for just goes to show how important Gibson Ranch is to local residents,” said Shannon Brown, Regional Parks Superintendent. “We really want to thank River Valley Feed for their generous donation.”
The Gibson Ranch ducks are one of the more popular attractions at Gibson Ranch, and Lloyd’s dedication to the ducks and the donations from the community will go to ensure that the ducks will be ready for their loyal visitors in the spring when the park re-opens.
If you are interested in donating, please contact Lloyd at 916-806-0472. Because Gibson Ranch is closed for the winter, Parks staff asks people not to go to the park to feed the ducks, but rather donate feed instead.
Due to continuing loss of state and local taxes, Gibson Ranch was closed for winter to save funds and will re-open to the public on weekends in the spring. Regional Parks is working with Rio Linda Elverta Park District and local community groups for long-terms solutions to maintain and operate the park. The horse boarding, trail rides, horseback lessons and other services provided by the concessionaire are still available and those boarding horses at the Park continue to have access to the equestrian facilities operated by the concessionaire.
