Oak Hill Elementary and Spinelli Elementary were just notified by California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) that they have been named to its 2009 Honor Roll. From more than 9,000 public schools in California, these two CJUSD schools were recognized as two of the 395 schools to receive the “STAR SCHOOL" award. As noted in the CBEE press release, “Star Schools are those with significant popoulations of socio-economically disadvantaged students that have shown a significant increase in grade-level proficiency and achievement gap reduction over four years.” A congratulatory letter stated, in part, “After reviewing student achievement data for every public school in California, your school stood well above the rest in getting your students to grade level proficiency.”

“These [Honor Roll] schools are the bright spots of hope in efforts to raise student academic achievement and close persistent achievement gaps,” said Kirk Clark, executive director of CBEE. “By highlighting them, recognizing their achievement and giving them a voice, we hope other schools can learn from thse proven practices and we can begin to take their success to scale throughout the state.”
