NOT FOUND: course veview dark horse.jpgThere is nothing like golf in the fall. A sunny, crisp day with a slight breeze blowing to keep you cool but not cold there is nothing like it. I think this is my favorite season to play golf.

I had the pleasure of playing Dark Horse Golf Course in Auburn, CA this month. Dark Horse is operated by Empire Golf, which operates Cherry Island, Ancil Hoffman, La Contenta, Oakmont and Auburn Valley golf courses as well. Dark Horse opened in 2002 and has won the acclaim of Golf Digest as it received 4 ½ stars. Also, Golf Magazine chose Dark Horse as one of its Top 10 You Can Play in America. It lives up to its advance billing.

The first tee is a great start. I played the Copper tees, which are the tees just inside the longest tees, and from there the view is great. It is a downhill, dogleg right that gives you the perfect chance to grip it and
rip it with your driver. After that, the fun has just begun! Dark Horse has challenges galore yet you are having fun the whole time. The par 4 second hole dares you to try to reach as far as you can off the tee, even though it is uphill all the way. The same goes for the par 4 fourteenth. Hole numbers four and five give you the greatest back to back challenge as they are two of the toughest holes on the course. You definitely have to pay attention to your club selection and course management. These are not just grab the long hitting clubs and swing away. Plan your attack and follow through or else run the risk of having big numbers on your score card.

The staff at Dark Horse is exceptional and treats every guest as if they were part of a special group. This is an exceptional course and has exceptional customer service in every aspect. I would urge everyone
to take the drive up to Auburn and experience Dark Horse. It is well worth the drive.
